Do you need an eSIM for Singapore?

By Serhat Dogan · Founder & editor, Miyaw eSIM · Last updated 2026-06-07

An eSIM is the easiest way to land at Changi already online — and Singapore has some of the world's fastest 5G (around 360 Mbps). It installs before you fly, keeps your home number, and roams on Singtel, StarHub or M1. Compact and often a stopover, even short stays benefit. A few days, 1–3 GB; a week, about 5 GB.

Do you really need one?

Even for a short Singapore stay or stopover, an eSIM is worth it — Changi and malls have Wi-Fi, but you'll want live data for the MRT, Grab, hawker-centre hunting and maps the moment you leave the airport. It installs before you fly and switches on instantly, with your number kept for calls.

Some of the world's best networks

Singapore is tiny and superbly connected: 5G runs around 360 Mbps and covers essentially the whole island, so streaming, video calls and hotspotting all just work. A travel eSIM roams on Singtel, StarHub or M1 — all excellent — so you get that experience without a local SIM.

Stopover or Southeast Asia hub?

Singapore is one of the world's great transit hubs, so it's often a leg of a bigger trip. If you're touring the region — Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia — a single regional plan can cover Singapore plus neighbours on one install. For a pure stopover, a small Singapore plan is cheapest.

How do you get an eSIM for Singapore?

Pick a plan for your stay (a small one for a stopover, or a regional plan if touring), install the QR code before you fly, and turn on Data Roaming on arrival. You can buy a Singapore eSIM on our Singapore page, or compare real prices on our best-eSIM for Singapore roundup.
